Information About Richard

Personal Description: I migrated to New Zealand in 2007 under the Skilled Migrants Category and have full residency status and indefinite returning residents visa. I am entitled to take up permanent employment in New Zealand. I also do part-time tutoring in Auckland.

Between 2007 and 2008, I was employed as a Senior Lecturer and eLearning Consultant in the School of Computing, Technology and Communications at the Waiariki Institute of Technology, Rotorua. In 2008, I also did some part-time tutoring for the Faculty of IT at WINTEC in Hamilton.

I have worked in this role with clients from the following sectors; local government, education, tourism, banking, manufacturing, automotive, engineering, finance, legal, research and development, insurance, banking, health care, information and communication technology, small to medium business, pharmaceuticals, real estate, utilities and retail. I possess a sound knowledge base from working with a wide variety of different corporate organisations in different industries.

In the UK prior to coming to New Zealand, in my role as a UK university programme director, senior lecturer, lecturer and tutor I demonstrated experience of the delivery of learning and development in a tertiary environment on numerous occasions in a range of subjects in the domain of Computing and IT. I have an MSc in PC Interfacing and Software Applications as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Coaching & Mentoring. I also have Post Graduate Certificates in E-Learning, Multimedia & Consultancy and also in Education & Professional Development. I am committed to and passionate about continuing professional development both inside and external to my domain and I am a reflective practitioner, continually wanting to update my skill set.

In the UK, I either led or was a major contributor to the development of the following programmes:
§ **Telephone Number Removed** – ICT Pathway on faculty undergraduate joint degree programme (UCE Birmingham).
§ **Telephone Number Removed** – BSc (Hons) Information Technology Management for Business (UCE Birmingham).
§ **Telephone Number Removed** – BSc (Hons) Computer Business & eSystems Technologies (UCE Birmingham).

§ **Telephone Number Removed** – BSc (Ord) Computing (Blackpool & The Fylde College, validated by Lancaster University).

I was also an external representative for the re-approval for the following programmes:
§ **Telephone Number Removed** – MA Marketing Management (UCE Birmingham).
§ **Telephone Number Removed** – BA (Hons) Accounting (UCE Birmingham).

In terms of course development/management in either business or IT programmes as well as being directly involved with the above developments, I was also involved in the following:
§ BSc (Hons) Information Technology for Management for Business course director (UCE Birmingham).
§ BSc (Hons) Computer Business & eSystems Technologies course director (UCE Birmingham).
§ HNC Computing course director (Blackpool & The Fylde College).
§ Networking Technologies pathway leader (UCE Birmingham).
§ BSc (Hons) Computer Business & eSystems Technologies year one tutor (UCE Birmingham).
§ HND Computing projects co-ordinator (UCE Birmingham).

In my previous role of the BSc ITMB course director at UCE Birmingham, in addition to my expected duties, I also:
§ Brought in £**Telephone Number Removed** the faculty for successfully developing the ITMB degree, with no validation conditions and only four minor documentation changes for the successful approval.
§ Successfully co-ordinated the external guru lecture programme. And in collaboration with The Universities of Northumbria and Greenwich in **Telephone Number Removed** the protocols for the guru lectures that were responsible for the smooth running of the lecture series in 2006/7.
§ Successfully opened up industrial liaison with Gary Argent, the UK HR Manager for Logica CMG, for the students at UCE Birmingham to act as their industrial mentor.
§ I had great working relationships all staff that from the UK government department that were backing the degree for which I was responsible.
§ I had great working relationships with all the ITMB programme directors at Northumbria, Keele, Oxford Brookes, UWE Bristol and Greenwich.
§ I was the external examiner for the ITMB programme at the University of Greenwich.

In terms of online teaching experience and knowledge and familiarity with online delivery platforms and teaching methods I can offer the following as direct evidence.
§ Post Graduate Certificate in E-learning, Multimedia and Consultancy.
§ Post Graduate Certificate in Education & Professional Development.
§ Certificate in Online Tutoring - Online Tutoring Methods & Online Tutoring Skills.
§ I was one of the original three innovators at UCE Birmingham to be selected as a faculty expert in using the Moodle VLE environment.
§ All modules that I delivered used to some extent e-Learning as part of their delivery.
§ I have used WebCT at City University London as part of my certificates in online tutoring. I also tutored Learn Direct students as part of this certificate.
§ In my previous employment, I set up teaching websites to support the delivery of the HNC Computing and BSc (Ord) Computing programmes. I was also jointly responsible for maintaining the web server on which these courses resided.
§ I was also familiar with Lotus Notes as a document management system, as opposed to a teaching system. It was used within the Department of Computing at UCE Birmingham as a repository for teaching schedules, assessments, exams and module reports.
§ I have used technology throughout my career in training and tutoring to assist in the following areas:
o Electronic delivery of educational content to support teaching and learning through virtual learning environments.
o Resource based learning and software development for distance learning.
o Electronic formative assessment.
o Using technology to support experiential based learning.
o Using technology to promote accelerated learning techniques.
o Using technology to support preferred learning styles.

As well as being an English language teacher in both Moldova and Ukraine in 1993, I also was a representative for the providing company during my time in Moldova. This involved numerous roles and responsibilities. One task was to ensure that incoming teachers were met at Bucharest airport and then successfully transited to Moldova. This was also ensured for their return journeys. I also liased with the hosting company on numerous operational matters; ensuring appropriate placements and host families for teachers and also arranging work and transit visas for both Moldova, Romania, Ukraine and Bulgaria.

Part of the responsibility for managing the £**Telephone Number Removed** that I brought in to the Buisness School at UCE Birmingham was to ensure that quarterly incremental spend on the programme are invoiced to eSkills UK. This was done in liaison with the faculty officer.

Should I be successful for short listing my referees will attest to my sound leadership skills in many different areas, gained from my passion for continuing professional development over several years. I have the ability to chunk matters up to the strategic level and see the bigger picture and when necessary also have the ability to drill down to the minutiae required at the operational level. I am happy networking both internally and externally and as part of my previous positions found myself doing so on a daily basis. The degree programme for which I was responsible for was delivered by four departments internally and had an external link with a UK government department. As the program was also delivered at six other UK tertiary institutions, I was in regular contact with staff from these institutions as part of the program involves running a fortnightly web-conference lecture to all participants using a senior external industrial speaker. I also liased with large UK organisations in the both the IT and telecommunications sector to ensure that the speakers were of the appropriate calibre for the degree programme.

I possess effective business planning and negotiation skills and possess experience of managing resources on academic programmes and my own business. Because of the geographical area in which I worked I was used to and exposed to a diverse student and staff groups from many different demographics. This was one of the main reasons I chose to start work with my previous employer, as this was not the case in my previous tertiary institution. I have vast experience in being able to plan, organise and prioritise tasks and to meet agreed deadlines.
