Why Choose Private Tuition?

Parents choose private tuition for their children when a child who has fallen behind with his studies, so he or she can catch up, or they might want their child to learn a subject outside of school, they might want to stretch their child further than the class environment allows, or just make sure the child gets the attention he or she deserves.

Tutoring can help your child to increase his or her confidence, help them perform better in their subjects, create motivation and enjoyment in a subject as well as develop the discipline required for study and study skills that can be applied to most subjects.

How to choose your private tutor

You can use First Tutors: NZ to find private tutors living near you who meet the requirements of you or your child's personal needs.

Search First Tutors: NZ to find the tutor that best suit your needs which includes cost and location. The subjects offered include Maths, English and science from primary level through to NCEA Level 1, NCEA Level 3 and up to tertiary level.

Tutors may declare on their profiles:

  • Their hourly rates
  • Their qualifications
  • Their unique approach to tutoring
  • Police clearance status
  • And availability (day, evening or weekend)

Remember, these declarations are done be the tutors themselves, so you should ask to see the tutor's police clearance certificate and qualifications before the first lesson.

When you have searched our site and chosen the private tutors you think are suitable, contact up to four of them in your private member's are and and ask questions to find out which one you will choose.

You then confirm your choice

We will then send you an email notification as soon as the tutors you selected confirm they are happy to start tutoring or answer your questions. Then it will be up to you to accept their offer and we will then exchange student and tutor contact details so you can contact each other.

Our Fees

Only when you have confirmed the match as satisfactory do we ask for the $14.99 which you can pay online by credit or debit card. This small fee is dramatically cheaper than agency fees usually asked for tuition which serves only to reassure our tutors that the enquiry is a serious one. We won't ask you to release your contact details until the tutor confirmed that they are able to meet your request.
